    Description

For Sale:  Vintage NASA/Apollo Program Snoopy Astronaut Doll with Original Box Art by United Feature Syndicate, Inc., 1969.
    This original
Snoopy Astronaut Doll is in good condition taking in account it is 52-years old, with some scratches and abrasions where doll’s canine nose impacted the inside of the front section of bubble helmet, faded red flying scarf, space suit remains pristine white with blue plastic lunar overshoes boots and “FLIGHT SAFETY” portable air-condition unit.  See images of doll.  Box art shows age and wear along corners and edges with small tears and creases on edge (see images) but overall intact with very little color fading.  Overall, doll and box art is a collectible vintage item during the Apollo Program.
As a popular household character, the dog Snoopy from the Peanuts comic strip series became the mascot of NASA’s Spaceflight Safety Initiative after Al Chop, Director of Public Affairs of the Manned Spacecraft Center (currently known as Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center) suggested using the character as the symbol for safety during the Apollo Program.  The creator of Peanuts, Charles M. Schulz, agreed and created comic strips of Snoopy on the Moon, helping to inspire excitement about America’s space program.  This beloved character was also adopted by NASA for the Silver Snoopy Award to honor ground crew who have contributed to flight safety and mission success.  In May 1969, “Snoopy” flew to and orbited the Moon as the call sign of the Lunar Module along with the Command & Service Module “Charlie Brown” on the Apollo 10 full lunar dress rehearsal mission prior to the first lunar landing mission by Apollo 11.
