STS-3Space Shuttle Columbia
Flown Thread Presentation
This auction is for an A4 sized presentation (shown in the first photograph) upon which is mounted a piece of black thread which flew on the third flight of the Space Shuttle Columbia (STS-3) in 1982 with astronauts Jack Lousma and Gordon Fullerton. This piece of thread was launched into space on 22nd March 1982 and spent 8 days in space, completing 130 orbits of the earth before returning to earth on 30th March 1982.
This segment of thread was trimmed from the rear of an STS-3 OSS1 Pathfinder patch (pictured) which flew into space on the STS-3 mission. The loose threads on the patch are clearly visible towards the bottom left and bottom right of the rear of the patch (pictured).
The presentation is on thin card.
