    Skylab was the first space station of the US and the second after world's first space station, Soviet Salyut 1. Mission goals of Skylab (1973 - 1979) were to learn about space and to have people live and work in space to conduct experiments and to observe the Earth's surface and atmosphere. There were three crewed missions, Skylab 2, Skylab 3, and Skylab 4 with NASA astronauts Pete Conrad, Joe Kerwin, Paul Weitz, Alan Bean, Owen Garriott, Jack Lousma, Jerry Carr, Ed Gibson and Bill Pogue.
