Description
In a pink and aqua felt dress, this girl is a La Nicette French cloth doll. With her black felt necktie, she could be a schoolgirl right out of the early 20th
century yearbooks !
This pretty girl stands about 23" in height. I have pictured her with a friend above, so
that you can get a sense of her size. Her shorter friend is also a Nicette doll, shelf size.
Small doll is NOT part of this listing, thank you.
With auburn colored hair and left glancing eyes, this
schoolgirl has a pensive expression. She probably wore gloves at one time and perhaps
even a beret, as seen in one other example found in the literature.
Despite being felt, her clothing has escaped the ravages of time and storage to a great
extent, less the soles of her shoes, which I have pictured. Below, she wears a one piece
teddy with a half slip over that, both lace trimmed. She has surface or shelf dust, commensurate
with her age and age discoloration on her legs and arms, again pictured. She does miss paint
on both sides of her heavily rouged face. There are interspersed areas near her
hairline and chin, where felt is slightly pitted, pictured above. Her somewhat bobbed hair does a decent job of
camouflaging those defects however, and she still displays just lovely. Her head is not super
tight and does have a
slight bobble.
Not perfect by any means, tho, marvelously charming !
The Great War disrupted doll production. By 1940, the production of La Nicette dolls ceased.
What remains of the ornamental dolls and beloved childhood playthings, are the treasures that we
collect and carefully pass on and preserve as best we can.
