    Description

    APOLLO 17
    .  Apollo 17 was the last manned moon landing mission with Commander Gene Cernan, Lunar Module Pilot and Geologist Harrison Schmitt, and Command Module Pilot Ronald Evans aboard.  It was distinguished by carrying the only trained geologist to walk on the lunar surface, traversing the greatest distance using the Lunar Roving Vehicle, and returning the greatest amount of rock and soil samples.
    EXTREMELY RARE AND EXCEPTIONALLY DESIRABLE UNITED STATES FLAG FLOWN ABOARD APOLLO 17 TO THE MOON’S LUNAR ORBIT
    Extremely rare and exceptionally desirable United States flag flown aboard Apollo 17 to the Moon’s lunar orbit.  Attached to a presentation certificate that states, “In recognition of your outstanding contribution to the manned space flight programs.  Presented to Eddie J. Lemons.  This flag was carried to the Moon aboard the spaceship America Apollo XVII December 7-19, 1972,” which is signed and dated below by, “Christopher C. Kraft Jr., February 1981,” the Director of the Johnson Space Center.  Lemon was in Flight Operations at NASA and was presented this flag upon his thirty years of service anniversary.
    PERSONALLY PRESENTED BY THE DIRECTOR OF THE JOHNSON SPACE CENTER TO A NASA FLIGHT OPERATIONS ENGINEER
    The flag measures 5.75 by 4 inches, mounted to a illustrated certificate measuring 14 by 11 inches, and in very good with staining to the flag and toning and a tear on the top border to the certificate.  An identical Apollo 17 flown flag presented by Kraft recently sold for ,125 at Heritage Auctions in June 2020.
