    Description

The "goggle-eyed, moustached, gloved and top-hatted, bulbous-nosed, cigar-chomping shrimp" (according to comics historian
    Bill Blackbeard
) was relentlessly henpecked by "a wife three times his size" (as the song lyric goes).
Above quote is from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Here is one of the earliest and hardest to find, stuffed cloth,
    Knickerbocker,
    cloth
    comic character
    dolls, circa 1925.
Often depicted with his sidekick horse, "Sparkplug," and just as depicted in the daily newspaper comic strips in the, 1920s era,
    "Chicago Herald"
    and the "Examiner"
    , this
    Knickerbocker Toy Co., New York
    * (commercially manufactured) stuffed cloth figure stands about,
    11" tall
, with huge outlined white eyes (replaced pupil centers), painted wrinkles, mustache and strands of hair beneath his vintage black felt top hat. He has applied felt ears and huge nose, large flat feet to stand, (inserted cardboard soles) sturdy hands have individually stitched fingers with separate thumbs and wears what appears to be most of his original clothing (although some pieces either need a little stitching or may have been added long ago). He wears attractive, black and white plaid wool, baggy trousers, undershirt, shirt and black and white felt tuxedo-type jacket, tie & stick pin and top hat. His clothing has no moth holes or stains and no serious damage. His fabric head is very fragile and needs care (cotton stuffing in his nose is showing & could be recovered).  *see November 1991, "Doll Reader" article, last photo.
