Description
APOLLO 11 JULY 20, 1969 MOON LANDING/WALK, ARTCRAFT CACHET (MAROON) -6 cent FLAG OVER WHITE HOUSE STAMP
The upper cancellation of this FIRST MAN ON THE MOON stamp is the Washington D.C. September 9, 1969 FIRST DAY OF ISSUE cancellation and the lower cancellation is the MOON LANDING U.S.A. cancellation of July 20,1969.
The cachet is printed/engraved by ArtCraft and depicts the Lunar Landing Module approaching the Moon
. The photos and names of the three Apollo 11 astronauts and the Apollo 11 shoulder patch also appear in the cachet. The cachet says "FIRST DAY OF ISSUE" and "MAN'S FIRST LANDING ON THE MOON, July 20, 1969".
The cover is unsealed and is addressed. This was probably one of the covers sent out by prime contractors on the Apollo project as souvenirs to people who had provided some service to the project. This particular cover is addressed to Mr. Harry F. Mess, Jr. of Amole, Inc.
