Description

Imagine, if you will... You are 250,000 miles from home... Flying a flimsy craft that couldn't support it's own weight on earth, with skin about as thin as beer can aluminum... Outside: the harsh, deadly vacuum of space... and 30 seconds of fuel left to decide if you can land or you have to abort. And once down, you get
ONE
chance to get off the surface and back home. There are no backups. If your ascent engine fails, you will die on the moon when your air runs out.
That was the situation on July 20, 1969 as Neil Armstrong and "Buzz" Aldrin approached the Lunar surface for the first time.
This Lunar Module model commemorates that moment, and the next 6 Apollo flights where the Lunar Module performed admirably. (Yes, for those keeping count, I'm including Apollo 13! The LEM was essential on that mission, too.)
3D printed in gold and silver metallic plastic, this 1/48 semi-scale model will show visible layer lines. I say semi-scale because the details have been simplified and the legs and struts thickened up to make the model less fragile. There are more accurate models out there, but they almost always either come as kits or they cost an arm and a leg.
Stands about 5" tall and 5' wide across the footpads. I'll throw in a tiny astronaut for scale: A man in this scale is about 1 1/2" tall.
