Description
The historic Apollo 11 mission was man's first landing on the moon and Neil Armstrong was the first man to walk on the lunar surface. These electrocardiograms (ECG) were recorded at the exact moment that Neil Armstrong said the now famous quotation "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind" and began his moon walk. The ground elapse time (GET) for the recording is 109:23:30 and ends at 109:25:45. According to NASA records, CDR Armstrong began his lunar surface activity at GET 109:24:15.These recordings were produced by Russell Kelly, who was the Biomedical Engineer during the Apollo program. He was in mission control during the historic time the CDR Armstrong and Aldrin performed their lunar surface activity. Mr. Kelly's tasks included the setup of the biomedical data being transmitted from each astronaut. Included in that data was the astronaut's ECG which was continually reviewed by NASA aeromedical personnel. Mr. Kelly was the principal author of the paper entitled "Algorithms for the Real-Time Computation of Metabolic Rate During Lunar Surface activity".
